The Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February
The list for awaited bikes at the Auto Expo 2016 also has the Suzuki Gixxer 250. The bike was expected to be showcased at the EICMA 2015 last month. But, we did not the see the motorcycle at the Japanese manufacturer’s stands. However, Bikewale has reported that the motorcycle is going to make its Indian in March, 2016. The 250 cc motorcycle will officially be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 in February.
Sadly though, no clear information about the Suzuki Gixxer 250 is available yet. However, there are some pointers which we can go by. The new motorcycle is expected to be powered by a single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that will be good to produce around 30 HP. This engine will be mated on a 6-speed gearbox. It is inspired the by the 155 cc mill in the younger siblings, the Gixxer 155 and the Gixxer SF.
The motorcycle is also expected to get a new swingarm suspension set up. The tyres are expected to be better and more efficient than in the existing models. The Suzuki Gixxer 250 will also get more powerful brakes to control the extra power. It will be safe to expect ABS as an option for the bike. It will be based on the same single downtube frame as seen on the younger siblings. However, it will have to be modified and beefed up as the new motorcycle is more powerful. The designing is inspired from the GSX-R rather than the Gixxer SF to make it look sportier.
The Gixxer 155 was launched along with the Yamaha FZ 2.0. It was the second generation of the unchallenged 150 cc segment ruler. But, things did not go as expected for the FZ 2.0. The Gixxer took its part of the cake and reduced the FZ sales considerably.
Though Suzuki is facing a downward trend in the two-wheeler market, the sales of Gixxer have showed an improvement. Thus, the growing popularity of the younger Gixxer will provide a launching pad for the Suzuki Gixxer 250. When launched it will take on the likes Honda CBR250R, Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and others in the segment. We can expect a price tag around INR 1,75,000.
