Finally news broke out last week, Marurti Suzuki confirmed Wagon R 7 seater production. Maruti Suzuki a giant in the Indian automotive industry, known for its innovation in their existing models. That gives a little stretch to the PLC of its models. Maruti Suzuki understands Indian needs. Wagon R is india’s largest selling hatchback in India. Suzuki will put the stretched version of the Wagon R hatchback into production. However, the production timeline has been shifted. Initially it has been just a concept but now it will be potent to production model which is expected to start in 2016. The seven seater Wagon R is first revealed in Indonesia International motor show 2013.
Since india is a major distributor of Wagon R from past years, most probably it will be launched soon after production. It will compete directly with the new Datsun Go+ MPV which is priced at around 5-5.5 Lakh. Suzuki already has a seven seater i.e. Ertiga which is doing quite good. Since WagonR will be an very exciting addition to the market. The wheelbase of the concept is unaltered, hence the overall length could be below 4 meters. Moreover, many new feature elements are added to new 7 seater wagon R such as better interiors and styling compares to existing 5 seater Wagon R.
New 7 seater is likely to have the same 1 liter-3 cylinder K-Series petrol engine that produces power and torque outputs of 67 Bhp and 90 Nm respectively. A good pickup which is perfect for Indian roads. It will compete with Honda Mobilio and Ertiga in Indian market. The car is sold with petrol, LPG and CNG engine options. The 3 Rows variant with 7 seats could be a big move for Maruti Suzuki if they can price the 7 seater model under 5 lakh rupees. It will be placed under Ertiga MPV. No doubt new wagon R can face competition with company’s own product i.e. Eeco. The Eeco is a rear wheel driven van that also offers a 7 seat layout which gives more power than Wagon R but its a more costly alternative. Only time will tell if the Wagon R will be a worthy car from Maruti suzuki.
