We reported in detail when it emerged that the Tata Bolt launch date could be finalized as January 20th. (You can read our earlier story on the Bolt launch date here). Now, Tata Motors has officially informed us that the Tata Bolt launch will happen on January 22 at an official event in Mumbai. The Bolt, which will become the most premium hatchback from Tata Motors ever, will be positioned above the Vista, and just lower to the Zest. The Zest was earlier scheduled to be launched in October 2014. However, various quality blips ensued that the launch was postponed till early 2015. Now though, it seems like Tata Motors is ready with its new baby and go all out against models like the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
Bookings for the new Bolt have been underway since sometime now and the new car can be booked online for a sum of INR 11,000. It is speculated that the prices of the entry level Bolt could start at just INR 3.99 Lakhs. Deliveries of Bolt could commence from this month itself. Our sources inform us that the dealerships have already started receiving cars from the first batch of Bolt. The Bolt will share its engines with the Zest and so, would come with a 1.2 liter turbo petrol motor that has a maximum power of 88 bhp and a 1.3 liter Fiat-sourced diesel engine that has a maximum power of 74 bhp. Both the motors will come paired with a five speed manual transmission. The petrol engine will also come with an optional AMT.
Like we mentioned above, the Bolt will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Fiat Punto. Unlike the Vista, which has found a preference of sorts among the fleet operators, the Bolt is aimed squarely at the private car market. It will be now interesting to see if the upcoming Tata hatchback would win hearts of small car buyers.
