Tata H5 SUV to compete with Hyundai Creta; Will use Jeep Compass engine

Tata has been testing a new SUV code-named the H5. This SUV will be the automaker’s Hyundai Creta challenger. A lot of details about the new SUV are now out in the open. Tata fans will be pleased to know that the new SUV will use Land Rover Discovery Sport platform, which is internally known as LS550.

The new SUV will also feature a 2 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine. This is the same engine that the Jeep Compass uses. On the Tata H5 though, this engine will be detuned to produce 140 Bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. On the Compass, this engine produces 170 Bhp-350 Nm.

Tata Motors will showcase the new H5 SUV at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. However, the launch of the vehicle will only happen by the end of 2018. The company has already started testing the H5 with the production body, and it is only a matter of time before uncamouflaged spyshots of the production version surface.

The H5 SUV will be offered in two variants. Initially, a 5 seat version will be launched, and after a year or so, a longer, 7 seat version will join the first model. Both these SUVs will be affordably priced in the Rs. 10-20 lakh segments.  SUV enthusiasts in India will also be happy to note that the new Tata H5 code-named SUV will offer a four-wheel drive transfer case.

It will also feature a 9 speed ZF sourced automatic transmission option while a six-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard. These features will make the new Tata very desirable because no other vehicle in the compact SUV segment offers a 4X4 transfer case and a 9-speed automatic gearbox. We are very excited to see the H5 in the flesh at the Auto Expo, which is less than a week away from now. Are you?
