Tata Motors showcased the H5X SUV and 45X premium hatchback concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both cars were the hottest looking concepts shown at the Auto Expo, and the best part is that the production versions of these cars will be similar to the concepts, when launched next year. This was revealed by Rajendra M Petkar, CTO & Head (Power Systems Engg) Engineering Research Centre, Tata Motors.
Here is the statement he made regarding the production versions of the H5X and 45X,
If you see the history of Tata Motors, you will see that there is a great degree of similarity between the concepts we showcase and the final production car. It is not that what we have shown here is an artistic impression which will be very different from what the final car looks like. There may be some embellishments missing, but we will always be close to what we showcase in a concept and what we finally offer.
In the past as well, Tata Motors’ production cars have been quite similar to what was showcased as a concept. The Tata Nexon is a prime example of this. Given how radical the H5X and 45X look in concept form, production versions of both these cars are expected to be the best lookers in their segments.
The 45X will compete with premium hatchbacks such as the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. It will be available with petrol and diesel engines. Tata Motors is also expected to add a dual clutch automatic gearbox option to this car in future.
The H5X SUV will be a five seater, meant to compete with the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster compact SUVs. The H5X will be launched ahead of the 45X, in early 2019, while the hatchback will be launched by the end of 2019. The H5X will get a 2 liter turbo diesel engine, with both manual and automatic gearboxes. A 4 wheel drive option is also likely.
