Tata Motors has revealed the Nexon AMT at the 2018 Auto Expo. The AMT variants of the sub-4 meter compact SUV will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. The new variants are also expected to get a new, Etna Orange paint job. The Nexon AMT with the new paint scheme was also shown at the Auto Expo.
Both the petrol and diesel variants of the Nexon AMT are likely to be the lowest priced sub-4 meter, automatic compact SUVs sold in India. We anticipate the petrol AMT to be priced at less than Rs. 8 lakhs, and the diesel AMT to be priced at less than Rs. 9 lakhs.
Both variants will use 6 speed AMT units that also have features such as a crawl mode and hill-hold. The latter is a very important feature that no AMT car sold in India has. It stops the vehicle from rolling backwards while taking off from a steep slope.
This feature makes driving an AMT car up steep ramps and hilly roads safer, and is very convenient as the driver no longer has to use the handbrake to keep the car from rolling backwards. The petrol Nexon will use the same 1.2 liter turbocharged engine with 108 Bhp and 170 Nm, while the diesel will be powered by the 1.5 liter, turbocharged unit with class-leading outputs of 108 Bhp and 260 Nm.
The Nexon AMTs will also have City, Eco and Sport modes, which alter gear shifts accordingly. The sub-4 meter compact SUV has been a big success for Tata Motors, and the addition of the new variants is expected to make sales stronger. The AMT variants will be aimed at city SUV buyers looking for comfort and convenience, without the loss of fuel efficiency, and at an affordable price point. The Nexon AMTs will take on the Ford EcoSport Petrol AT and the Mahindra TUV300 Diesel AMT models.
