Tata Motors has been in the news ever since it has announced Lionel Messi as their Global Brand Ambassador. The first campaign featuring the Argentinian footballer, #madeofgreat, teased Tata’s upcoming hatchback, Tata Zica. This car was previously codenamed as the Kite. The Tata Zica is expected to be an entry-level budget hatchback. It is also expected to replace the very successful Indica. However, no official news about the positioning of the new hatchback is available. The official sketch of the new car was recently launched by Tata motors.
The Tata Zica (hatchback) will be followed by a compact sedan sharing the same platform. Both the hatchback and compact sedan are based on the Indica’ XO platform. However, other than the pedal box, firewall for engine and few other components nothing else will be carried on. The platform is also beefed up to get a more rigidity and a stable ride. The Tata Zica is another product designed under the company’s new HorizoNext initiative. The Zest and Bolt are the first models of the campaign. The front of the new Tata Zica looks similar to that of the Zest/Bolt siblings. But, the rear doesn’t look like any of the Tata cars on sale right now.
The new car is powered by a 1.2-liter, Revotron, petrol engine that also works under the hood of the Zest/Bolt siblings. It will also be offered with a 1.05-liter, three-cylinder, diesel engine which seems to be the shredded version the 1.4-liter engine used in other Tata cars. It is expected to produce a max power of 64 BHP and a peak torque of 140 NM. It will be offered with 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT unit which will either be borrowed from the Zest/Bolt or the Nano AMT.

As we have reported earlier, the new Tata Zica is expected to make a debut in December itself. After, the failure of the Zest/Bolt on the sales front. The Zica is given the responsibility to handle the situation. It is expected to between INR 3-4 lakhs.
