The mini hatchback by Fiat, which was unveiled earlier, finally seems to be preparing for its launch during this festive season hopefully. The 2014 Fiat Abarth 500, is totally different from its calmer sibling the Fiat 500. The Abarth 500 is small, wicked and is built to thrill.
The Fiat Abarth 500 on the exterior comes with a sportier design than the Fiat 500. The front facade gets a new bumper, air-vents on the lower pumper, a retractable top and hardtop version as well, aerodynamic side skirts and a new rear bumper.
The interiors of the Abarth 500 follows the same retro-modern look as seen in the Fiat 500. There are newer additions as well to go with the whole Powertrain of the Abarth model which features a sporty leather wrapped steering wheel, sport seats- to keep one in place at high speed, the new Abarth badging, 17-inch alloy-wheels and a choice of decals and racing stripes.
The 2014 Abarth 500 is powered by a 1.4 liter, turbocharged, 4-cylinder, petrol engine which is capable of producing 137 PS of power, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Abarth will also come in differently tuned same 1.4 liter, turbocharged engine, which churns out 163 PS of power and 230 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6- speed automatic transmission. The higher tuned engine model is called the “Essess”.
Fiat is reviving its racing heritage with the 2014 Fiat Abarth 500 which hopefully is soon to hit the Indian roads as well. The Abarth 500 may be priced approximately between Rs 22 lakh- 24 lakh (ex showroom), placing the hot hatchback against its rival the Mini Cooper. With newer dealerships opening in India along with product launches like the Punto Evo, Fiat is on the right track to embrace the future.
