The Indian market has seen some very good launches this year. New cars in almost every segment have been launched this year for e.g The Renault Kwid in the budget cars, the Mahindra TUV 300 and Hyundai Creta as compact SUV’s, the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno for premium hatchback, the new Skoda Octavia in the D segment sedans and many more. A very important segment in the Indian market, the under 5 lakh segment only saw the launch of Renault Kwid this year. The Kwid with its bulky looks, best in class features and a whooping 98% Localisation came out with flying colors. Although, it is about to face competition with the launch of upcoming cars in the under 5 lakh budget.
TATA KITE TWINS
Tata motors have recently signed star footballer Lionel Messi as its global brand ambassador. The first video with Messi created a buzz as soon as it was aired. The video teases the much awaited Tata Kite (codenamed) hatchback. The video relates the car with Messi’s life. The teaser has made the buyers even more curious about the car. The car will be the successor of the very successful Indica V2. A number of spy shots are found and they keep pouring in. The car is expected to come with 1.2 litre petrol and 1.05 litre diesel options. The diesel on offer indicates the possibility of an AMT, however, no confirm news is available on it. The new car will borrow parts like steering, gear stick, etc. From the elder brothers Bolt/Zest. It will be priced competitively between 3.25 lakhs to 5.05 lakhs. Following the hatchback will be the sub four meter sedan twin.
The codenamed Mahindra S101 will be a sub four meter crossover to be placed below the newly launched TUV 300. The car is expected to come with a 1.2 litre petrol and diesel options. It has a similar formula to the one of Kwid. However, it will take on the Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, etc. Rather than A-segment hatchbacks. The spy shots disclose interior features like touchscreen infotainment, rectangular AC wents, etc. The steering wheel is expected to be borrowed from TUV 300. The new car is expected to share the responsiblity of revival of Mahindra on the sales front. The price will start below 5 lakhs.
TATA PELICAN 800
Tata has vast plans for the future of the company. A range of new products is to be launched to replace the existing slow selling vehicles. After the Kite siblings will come the little Tata Pelican 800 to take on the Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and the new Renault Kwid. As the name suggests the Pelican will have a small 800cc diesel engine and a 1000cc petrol engine. The new car will be based on Nano but aims to be a proper city hatchback and not a low budget car. However, it is expected to be launched in 2016 in price range starting from Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 4 lakhs.
DATSUN REDI-GO Hatchback
The Nissan sister company Datsun made its debut last year with the budget car Datsun Go followed by its 7 seater sibling the Go+. The car will be based on the CMF-A platform same as the Renault Kwid. It is also expected to leave the Kwid behind with its price range expected to go lower than that of Maruti Alto 800. It will share the 799cc, 3 cylinder engine with the Kwid and expected to launch in 2016.
