Valentino Rossi won the 2015 British Moto GP held at Silverstone in wet conditions to lead the world championship by 12 points. Ducati duo of Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Dovizioso made it two Ducati riders on the podium in a remarkable race turned upside down by rain before the start.
Jorge Lorenzo astride the Yamaha came in fourth place after dropping down to sixth place at one point in time. Lorenzo started the race in the second position and was first of the grid only to be caught by world title rivals Rossi and Marc Marquez.
The organizers decided for a delayed start, instead of starting from the pitlane since it was raining. The rain had prompted the entire field to head into the pitlane for their wet-weather bikes at the end of for the formation lap.
Once the race began it was a competition between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez for the top spot and Marquez was breathing down the neck of Rossi for the first half of the race. However, an error on his part was the reason for a high-speed crash at Copse which gave Rossi a clear six second advantage over the now second placed Petrucci.
Pramac Ducati rider Petrucci had stormed through from 18th on the grid and was in a huge battle for second with works counterpart Dovizioso when Marquez crashed. Petrucci reduced the leaders advantage to just 1.6 seconds but was unable to overtake.
Marquez crash left him 77 points adrift of Valentino Rossi, the overall leader with six races to go in the season.
