Yamaha M-SLAZ has been unveiled at the Thailand Motor Show. The brochure reveals specs and features but misses out power and torque.
Yamaha launched a number of new street naked bikes at EICMA 2015, like the MT-10 based on the YZF-R1M. We were expecting a similar streetfighter based on YZF-R15 to be launched in the following months. We got the first look at the MT-15 or M-SLAZ at a promotional event in Thailand few days ago. The images showcased a very promising bike. It was expected to launch at the Thai Motor show and it did. The Yamaha M-SLAZ has been launched at the Thailand Motor Show on Tuesday. We have got a brochure that reveals all the specifications and features. However, the brochure did not contain the power torque numbers.
The M-SLAZ is powered by a 149 cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, 4-Valve, liquid-cooled engine. This is the same engine that powers the YZF-R15 curently with the same technical specifications. This motor when mated on a 6-speed gearbox produces 17 PS @ 8,500 RPM and 15 NM of peak torque @ 7,500 RPM. However, the engine is expected to be tweaked to suit the street character of the bike.
The Yamaha M-SLAZ is 1,955 mm long, 795 mm wide, 1,065 mm tall with a wheelbase of 1,350 mm. The seat height is 805 mm with a ground clearance of 164 mm. The bikes’s fuel tank can store 10.2 liters of fuel. The engine oil capacity is 1 liter and 0.52 liters of coolant can be used at a time. The M-SLAZ is based on the same Deltabox frame as seen in the YZF-R15.
The spy images from the promotional event showcased a host of features on the M-SLAZ. The production bike has even more features. The ignition system is something new in the segment. The bike features keyless ignition with ignition key borrowed from bigger MT’s such as MT-09. The key slot is interestingly placed on the fuel tank. The M-SLAZ will have LED headlamp and tail lamp with LED DRL’s.
The suspension department is handled by 37 mm front telescopic forks and rear monoshock equipped multilink. Both the wheels have disc brakes as seen on the YZF-R15. The bike rides on 110/70-17 M/C 54S tyre at the front and 130/70-17 M/C 62S tyre at the rear.
The new Yamaha M-SLAZ is priced at THB 85,900 ( INR 1.66 lakhs). The bike is expected to make its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. It is expected to come with an under 1.5 lakhs price tag.
